From Apprentice to General Manager – Colin’s Journey at Alan Gordon

At Alan Gordon, we’re proud to celebrate the people behind our success and Colin’s story is a perfect example of how dedication, growth, and hands-on experience can shape an incredible career.

Colin began his journey at just 16 years old as a Machining Apprentice. Like many apprentices, he started by learning the fundamentals on the shop floor, gaining practical skills and a deep understanding of the business from the ground up.

After spending 10 years in the machine shop, Colin’s commitment and hard work led to his promotion to Team Leader. His leadership skills and technical knowledge continued to develop, and another decade later he progressed to Workshop Manager. In 2019, when the business was sold, Colin was offered the role of General Manager – a testament to his loyalty, expertise, and the trust he had built over the years.

When asked about his favourite part of working at Alan Gordon, Colin highlighted the strong customer relationships he has built:

“Working closely with customers to ensure their components are delivered on time and to a high standard.”

Looking ahead, Colin is focused on continuous improvement and growth:

“I want to continue to improve in my position and grow the company.”

Colin’s journey shows just how far an apprenticeship can take you. From the shop floor to General Manager, his story is a reminder that investing in people and skills creates long-term success, both for individuals and the business.
