Where It All Began: The People and Passion Behind SKN Electronics

SKN Electronics began in the founder’s house in Birmingham in 1986. In those early days, a small group of family members hand-built circuit boards, bending component legs, trimming them, and soldering everything directly onto printed circuit boards. It was a hands-on operation founded on hard work, skill, and attention to detail.

Three individuals from those early days continue to contribute to the company today, demonstrating remarkable loyalty and dedication:

Shafiq Ahmad, Commercial Manager and Site Manager

Eveord Johnson, Logistics

Sadat Akram, Team Leader (Soldering)

One of SKN’s first customers was the well-known audio equipment company Audient, helping to establish the business in its formative years. As demand grew, operations moved into a small production unit near the current location, before relocating to the present site in 1997.

The name SKN comes from the original partners. Safir Ahmed, Kurshid Ahmed, and Naseer. Ahmad (Shafiq Ahmad’s father).

Shafiq joined the business in 1989 while still at school, initially working evenings before moving into a full-time role through the YTS scheme. He has been part of SKN ever since and now leads the factory operations.

Looking ahead, SKN Electronics plans to invest in new equipment to expand capacity and enhance small-volume production capabilities, ensuring the company continues to meet evolving customer needs.

The team also enjoys collaborating outside of work through cricket, building camaraderie, and even picking up a few trophies along the way.
